I tried running everyday for a month – Building habits to last a lifetime
Back in June 2019, I decided to set myself the challenge of running everyday. I wanted to see if it was possible to build a habit in a short space of time. Now, I want to reflect on the positive changes that building this habit has created.
I ran 27 days.
I missed 3 days.
Overall, I’d call this a success. I ran at least 3km each time (just over a mile) and ran for at least 15 mins each day.
The Book, Atomic Habits, by James Clear talks about how the habit you want to build is just the end result. I’d really recommend that you buy this book if you are wanting to learn about building new habits. It is one book I would truly consider to be life changing.
You actually need to build lots of new habits, much smaller habits along the way. This is the idea that stood out to me during this month. The micro habits were the reason I was able to run for 27/30 days.
What are these micro habits?
The micro habits are the ones such as getting my running clothing out in the morning so that it was ready for me when I got back from work. It was making sure my headphones were charged. It was making sure my diet was better so I had energy. It was making sure my running…
